warcraft III : undead strategia 2
The addition of two new skills for Dread Lord and Death Knight has significantly strengthened the ground force of undead. These two new skills are Vampiric Aura and Unholy Aura. Since the patch 1.1x, the Vampiric Aura adds 45% life leeching for melee attacks at skill level 3 and Unholy aura adds 30% movement rate and 15% attack rate increase at level 3. These two skills, when combined together, can give the ghouls a huge bonus in early game and allow you to kill almost any ground force that other races have to offer. This strategy is considered most anti-unit, meaning it is designed to destroy the support of the heroes rather than the heroes themselves. However, it has potential and capability to target heroes selectively and quickly reduce their HPs, with the Death Coil and Carrion Swarm in undead’s arsenal.
Here’s the basic build order you should go for at the start :
1) Send 3 acolytes to the haunted gold mine and have the initial ghoul to start harvesting lumber.
2) Queue 2 acolytes and set the rally point to the gold mine
3) Send the acolyte that’s left over to build Crypt and Ziggurat respectively.
4) Build graveyard as soon as the cash’s available.
5) Start pumping out ghouls as soon as the crypt is done
6) Start upgrading the necropolis to the halls of the dead. DO NOT pump out the first hero yet.
7) When the Halls of the Dead is done, start pumping out Death Knight first. When the Death Knight is done, start the summoning of the Dread Lord right away.
From here and on, you have to make sure that you pull the first offensive move with the ghouls and the two heroes and CONTAIN the enemy at his / her main base. The main idea of this strategy is to contain the enemy in his base while pumping out relatively inexpensive ghouls from your main base, allowing you to tech up relatively quickly since the cash output is lower than pumping out crypt fiends or any other high tech units. There are several researches that are essential for this build to last well into the mid game, which is the time you should start pushing into your opponent’s main base. The reason that you should only contain with the ghouls till the mid game is the fact the ghouls are absolutely dismal against the static defenses because of their low damage vs buildings and low HP. The undead and orc players can easily fend off this build with spirit tower and a couple of burrows. The researches that you should consider (being listed from most useful to the least) are :
1) Armor Upgrade : Ghouls need this early AND mid game. Each points in armor will reduce 5% of the damage taken from the final damage calculated. Since the ghouls have relatively low hp and you need as much of them as possible, armor upgrade is the top priority over any other upgrades.
2) Cannibalize : This skills has been changed slightly to gradually heal ghouls while consuming the corpse rather than rejuvenating your ghouls instantly. However, it is still an essential spell in large unit vs unit battle since this allows your ghouls to stay alive a LOT longer than before. The ghouls that are cannibalizing the corpse will regain 50 hit points per second, meaning you only need 4 to 5 seconds for them to be at full health – unless they are severely injured. Usually 50 HP / second outweighs the damage taken while you’re consuming the corpse, and the corpses will last for lenghty 8 seconds. This skill is a must (along with armor upgrade) especially against tough units like grunts and huntresses.
3) Ghoul Frenzy : This skill functions much like Death Knight’s Unholy Aura except it is a passive ability learned by all the ghouls and stacks on top of the Unholy Aura. The skill itself adds 20% increase in both the attack rate and movement rate. With slvl 3 Unholy Aura and Vampiric Aura, the ghouls will last a lot longer in battle than before. The movement upgrade doesn’t upgrade the cannibalize speed, however.
4) Attack Upgrade : The attack upgrades aren’t as significant as the other three mentioned since the gain from the upgrade is miniscule (not enough even with vampiric aura) and should be considered as “icing on the cake” rather than the absolute necessity. However, it is recommended to consider what type of units you’ll be gunning for from mid game to the late game and research the upgrades accordingly rather than blindingly upgrading the ghouls.
Strategic Tips / Things to remember :
1) The skills for heroes should be learnt in following way :
I) For Death Knight : Lvl1 : Death coil
Lvl2 : Unholy Aura
Lvl3 : Death Coil
Lvl4 : Unholy Aura
Lvl5 : Raise Dead
II) For Dread Lord : Lvl1 : Vampiric Aura
Lvl2 : Carrion Swarm
Lvl3 : Vampiric Aura
Lvl4 : Carrion Swarm
Lvl5 : Vampiric Aura
The reason that you don’t want Dread Lord’s ultimate is that you probably won’t have enough time to wait for the summoning of the creatures while you’re micromanaging your ghouls to keep them alive and manage the summoning. Dread Lord is relatively weak compared to the Death Knight and needs to support the attacking force constantly in order for this strategy to be effective. This is why you’ll try to level up Vampiric Aura and Carrion Swarm first. Both of those skills are Anti Units in general. Carrion Swarm has huge range and Vampiric Aura gives nice boost to your Heroes and Ghouls alike. If the leveling of the heroes can be controlled, you should always try to level up death knight to lvl5 before the dread lord since raise dead gives you huge support in the middle of the battle. It is the most useful in mid-game where your lack of teching will make you suffer against huge units like Tauren and Knights.
2) Always micromanage your forces
Each ghoul is essential to your attack forces and should be saved. You can manage them individually in the sub group by shift+tabbing. The selected unit will be able to take the command alone, and be allowed to move out of the battle while the others remain in the fight. As soon as the ghoul reaches 33% of their HP, have them cannibalize a corpse. Also, the heroes in this strategy are absolutely essential since they provide the needed bonus for ghouls to be effective enough in terms of containment. Without the dual auras, your ghouls will get steam rolled.
3) With the Death Coil and Carrion swarm, try to target the heroes first
The disadvantage of this strategy is that if your ghouls get killed a lot, any opponents going single heroes will level up quickly. The solution to this is to selectively target their single hero with death coil and carrion swarm, both of which have excellent range. The heroes that you should watch out for are : Arch Mage (blizzard/ water elemental) and Keeper of the Grove (thorn / treants)
4) Make sure to scout and tech up accordingly
Undead has counter for almost any sort of attacks that other races have to offer. However, this requires you to tech up constantly AND expand while you’re containing the counter offensives. For any air units, choose crypt fiends and web ability. For mass units, go for banshees / necromancers in healthy mix. If your opponent turtles in with static defense – which is what this strategy should force him / her to do, go straight for meat wagons. Whatever you do, DON’T try to destroy your opponents base with ghouls. Ghouls do crappy damage against any type of buildings and die quickly against the static defense |
